Maybe, maybe not.

Subject: The Name

Hey there, was just at your Website and reading the history ("The Pignose Story" article by Baker Rorick) where it says "the origin of the name is a mystery".

Maybe, mabe not.
The original prototype that Mr. Kath carried around with him was equipped with a makeshift "knob" that was fashioned from a plastic elctrical grommet by simply melting the grommet around the volume control shaft, presumably by means of a soldering iron or gun. It was rather crude, but it did provide a knob of sorts for the shaft. The way the plastic was melted, it rather resembled a pig's snout.

I believe it was Terry who first called the amp "pignose" because of that knob, but am not certain on this one.

I don't know who did the original melting of the knob, presumably the designer/builder of the prototype, but I definitely recall seeing the amplifier with the melted "pignose" knob in Pittsburgh, PA.
